RAS:Remote
Access Service (provided by Windows NT) :service provided
by Windows NT which allows most of the services which would
be available on a network to be accessed over a modem link.
The service includes support for dialup and logon, and
then presents the same network interface as the normal
network drivers (albeit slightly slower!).
TTPT:Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (Microsoft)

IP routing capability to Ascend's multiservice WAN switching
products. This provides carrier-class IP services along
with Frame Relay and ATM by combining the intelligence
of connectionless oriented Layer-3 interfaces at the edge
of the network, with the efficiency and QoS capabilities
of a Layer-2 connection-oriented core. Ascend's IP Navigator
is the only solution that allows service providers to build
highly scalable switched IP Wide Area Networks (WANs) using
native IP routing protocols such as OSPF, BGP-4 and RIP,
while utilizing a high speed ATM or Frame Relay backbone
network with its inherent end-to-end QoS and bandwidth
management capabilities. White

MAC:Media
Access Control (Ascend) - A system of rules used to move
data from one physical medium to another.
MAX:Media
Access Exchange (Ascend) - The Ascend MAX is a system-level
network access unit, with a cage and backplane into which
Multiband or Pipeline cards can be inserted to configure
it for various application requirements. It supports up to
32 host ports or direct Ethernet connection and up to 8 Mbit/s
to the network. It supports multiple applications, including
remote LAN access, leased line backup and individual videoconferencing
units, as well as connecting videoconference MCUs to the
digital dial-up network.
SS7:Signaling
- DataKinetics specialises in the development of solutions
for Signalling System No.7 (Variously called SS7, SS#7,
C7, CCS7), the signalling system which forms the backbone
of all modern digital networks. DataKinetics provides a
range of SS7 access products for the rapidly-evolving global
telecoms market and is a key player in the entry of computer-telephony
integration into the Central Office environment.

toll service refers to calls made between two different local
service areas within the same Local Access and Transport
Area (LATA). These calls are often referred to as regional
toll calls.
Wide Area Telephone Service (WATS) and 800/888 "toll-free
number" service. - WATS is an effective solution for customers
with large-volume outbound calling. 800/888 service provides
added value to organizations who wish to increase their accessibility
to their customers and reduce the expenses of collect calling.

CAGR:Compound
Annual Growth Rate(複合年成長率) - The formula for compounded annual
growth rate: ((last value/first value)^(1/(last year - first
year)))-1
FT1:Fractional T1 - A (usually) 128-, 256-,
384-, 512-, or 768-kbits/s point-to-point digital data communications
channel (which corresponds to 2, 4, 6, 8, or 12 channels
of a T1). The physical circuit is a full 1.544 Mbits/s T1
line with CSU/DSUs, but only some (that is, a fraction) of
the 24 slots are used.
T3:Digital Transmission Rate 3 - A communications
circuit that supports 28 T1s, which is a total of 672 DS-0
channels. Each DS-0 carries 64,000 bits/s of data (which
could also be a digitized voice conversation). The actual
bit rate is 44.736 Mbits/s.
OC-3:Optical Carrier 3 - A SONET rate of 3
* 51.84 = 155.52 megabits per second, which matches STS-3.
DS3:44.736 Megabits per second.- The third
DS level, a framing specification for digital signals
BGP4:Border
Gateway Protocol 4 - BGP-4 provides a new set of mechanisms
for supporting classless interdomain routing. These mechanisms
include support for advertising an IP prefix and eliminates
the concept of network "class" within BGP. BGP-4 also introduces
mechanisms which allow aggregation of routes, including aggregation
of AS paths. These changes provide support for the proposed
supernetting scheme
OSPF:Open Shortest-Path First Interior Gateway
Protocol - A link state routing protocol, as opposed to a
distance vector routing protocol. It is one of the Internet
standard Interior Gateway Protocols defined in RFC 1247.
latency:The time it takes for a packet to
cross a network connection, from sender to receiver.
MPLS proposes a network architecture that
employs two main types of routers:
LER (Label Edge Routers) located at
the edge of the network to perform traditional routing
function (layer 3) and for connectivity to user networks
LSR (Label Switching Routers) located
in the core of the network to perform high-performance
Label Switching Routing (layer 2).
MPLS network architecture can in itself increase
core network performance and capacity by a factor of ten
over traditional routing. Furthermore, MPLS networks retain
full compatibility with existing IP based systems and thus
protect current investments.
